Installing and using Microsoft Authenticator for the first time
1. When you login to one of your Office 365 apps, you will get this screen. Click next.
2. You are then told to download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
3. In App store/Google play store, download the Microsoft Authenticator App on your phone.
4. Now that you have the authenticator app, click next
5. Here, it is telling you to set up your authenticator app from your phone. Do NOT click next yet.
6. On your phone, in the authenticator app, tap add account
7. Once you tap add account, this screen pops up. Tap Work or school account.
8. Now that you've done that, go back to your computer. Now you can click next on this screen.
9. Here it is telling you to scan the code. Do not click next. Go back to your phone.
10. On your phone, in the authenticator app, tap Scan QR code.
11. Your camera will open. Align the box with the QR code and your account will be added automatically.
12. You can now see your account in the authenticator app. You are not finished. Go back to your computer.
13. Back on your computer, now that your QR code is scanned, you can click next.
14. Here it is telling you to enter the number shown on your phone when prompted. You cannot click next until you do so.
15. On your phone, you will get a prompt that pops up and asks you for the number displayed on your computer (in the previous step).
16. Enter that number and tap Yes.
17. Back on your computer, you will see it was approved and you can click next. Do so now.
18. Your next step is to enter your phone number. Enter your phone number here, area code first and select 'Text me a code'. Click Next.
19. You will be told that they sent you a text with a verification code. Go to your phone and get the code from your text messages.
20. On your phone, get the verification number from your text messages.
21. Back on your computer, enter the verification number you got from your texts.
22. You will see that your code was taken successfully. Click Next.
23. You will see this screen, Just enter "App password" and click next. You will not need this, as you will already have 2 forms of verification.
24. Click Done.
25. You can now see all steps are complete. Click Done.
26. Continue to your usual login.
27. Using the Authenticator app
28. Go to sign into your Microsoft account. Click Next.
29. Enter your password and click Sign in.
30. Your authenticator sign in request will pop up, remember the code given to you here. Open the authenticator app on your phone.
31. Right when you open the app on your phone, you will get this pop up, asking for the code you saw at your sign in page. Enter the code and hit yes.
